Premier National Junior Ayrshire and Milking Shorthorn Shows
Abe Light, of Argyle NY, resides with his wife Lauren, and their daughter Summer. He didn’t grow up on a farm, but was lucky enough to be introduced to the world of registered Holsteins in high school and has been involved with them since. In College, he met people who connected him with opportunities to work shows and sales, and went on to spend years working as a fitter in the US and Canada.
In 2005, he turned his interest to commercial dairy farming, and worked as a herdsman and herd manager at two different herds in the North East. From there, he took a job with ABS Global as an AI technician, eventually landing in Idaho, where he spent 5 years in management before returning to NY in 2013 to reconnect with the registered business. Since returning to NY, he has spent the majority of his time self-employed marketing cattle as a promoter and a Sale Contact. In that time, he has had the pleasure to assist many buyers in purchasing cattle and genetics that suit their needs and their budget.
Over the last 25 years, he’s worked with 3 Supreme Champions and several champions of every breed at World Dairy Expo and many All-Americans. He has owned a handful of All-American nominations in partnerships, and co-bred the Unanimous All American R&W Spring calf in 2022. He has had the opportunity to judge many shows at the local and state level, and has judged National shows in several breeds as well. This is his first time officiating at the AADS, and he is humbled and grateful for the opportunity to come down to Harrisburg and work with the juniors.
While he and his wife both have full time jobs, they stay involved and active in showing cattle. They have plans to build a barn at their home in the near future, with two goals in mind; To develop and market show heifers, and to give their kids the chance to learn the valuable lessons that can be learned growing up in a barn.
